Patterned Imprinted Concrete

Patterned imprinted concrete can be a very innovative skill. It adds colour and patterns to freshly poured concrete. This recreates the look of real materials like stone and slate as well as timber. This avoids the high prices associated with natural products.

Minimal Maintenance

Patterned concrete is an exclusive product that requires very little maintenance. It is superior to other products such as block paving, flagstones, and tarmac. Many problems are eliminated with a four-inch fibre reinforced concrete and a dolomite base. These problems can be attributed to other products, such as sinking and weeds. The problems that can be encountered with wooden decked patios include block paving and wood rot.

What is Pattern Imprinted Concrete?

Simply put, patterned concrete is also known as stamped concrete. It involves pouring concrete onto a sub-base and then applying a color followed by a hardener. This is different from traditional concreting that used blocks to create your finish.

After the concrete has cured, the pattern can be applied. You can choose from many different prints, such as brickwork or textured stone. For driveway lining, patterned concrete is a popular option for domestic properties.

Good quality print

The quality and durability of the concrete printed is crucial. To properly lay fresh concrete, you need to take extreme care, be patient, and dedicate your time. If the concrete forms inconsistently, it can lead to a weak floor.

Most contractors will use 6-8 rigid printing matsa and 1 flexible mat in a single set. It is necessary to use six mats to span the narrowest section. However, flexible mats are used to access and to print areas that rigid mats won’t.

While most printing mats are 600x600mm, there is some flexibility in matt size. First, determine how big you need the mats. Next, find the best price.

Colour Consistency

If you are looking to have imprinted concrete flooring, ensure you consider the following: The main components in patterned concrete include antique release agents and colour surface toughener.

Poor final appearance can be caused by poor application of colour surface hardener. This is especially evident in commercial jobs larger than retail shop flooring.

It may take several concrete deliveries for big commercial jobs. This could result in slight colour variations in each concrete mix. The job of the surface hardener, when applied, is to match the colours. This is especially useful for larger jobs that may take several days.

Ensuring Long-Term Durability

To ensure that the concrete floor is durable, the sub-stone foundation must be mixed with the ground below it. This could be soil or stone.

A concrete mix is also important in ensuring structural integrity will remain strong for many years.

This is especially important when you live in areas with high traffic, such as driveways and multi-storey car parkings.

Reduce the Chance of the Concrete Cracking

For driveways made of patterned concrete, you must have at most 300kgs of cement per cubic yard.

You will need to use 350-380kgs for cold weather.

You can also add an air entertainment agent to improve the floor’s durability.

Reducing Maintenance & Maximising Results

The overall appearance of patterned concrete can be improved by using a solvent-based acrylic sealing agent (only after it is dry). Water-based acrylics can be more difficult to use on patterned concrete, so avoid them.

You can also apply the sealant once every four years to maintain the appearance and quality of your patterned concrete.

Although it is not mandatory, it will ensure that your driveway or any other area of patterned concrete remains beautiful for many years.
