Your council will need information about any changes you make to your driveway or parking lot. The dropped kerb, which is the low access point connecting your driveway to the highway, allows your vehicle safely to enter and leave the road. These must be built in accordance with the building standards of your local council by certified contractors.

If there is an existing drop kerb on your driveway and it has not been altered in any other way, then you don’t have to install one. If you’re planning on changing or creating a new access point in your parking area, you must obtain permission from the local authority.
I need my kerb to be lowered. Do you have any suggestions?
The first step of the process is to determine whether you need planning permission for your curb to be lowered. You can also apply to obtain a highway excavation license. This applies to kerb extensions too. The local highways office will send out an official to determine if planning permission is necessary, if underground utility plan approval is required from the relevant supplier and whether the licence will be granted. The whole process typically takes four to five week.
After the excavation licence has been issued and all necessary planning permission granted, work can begin. The drop kerb may then be built according to the authority’s specifications. Note that if an excavation licence is not granted and work begins, the council can penalize you retrospectively. This is why it is so important that all the steps are managed by an experienced contractor.

Dropped kerbs are used to prevent cars from parking too closely to driveways or walkways. They can also be used to provide wheelchair access. They have been recommended by the Department of Transport in England since 2010. They are loved by homeowners and landowners.
